Successful empty Bowls in Albuquerque...report from Elaine Biery and Shantel Riley

Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 1:41 PM
Subject: Empty Bowls
The Empty Bowls event went very well thanks to the many potters who graciously gave of their time by participating in the throwing, trimming and glazing parties; volunteering to collect and transport bowls; and donating the many beautiful bowls that filled the tables. Potters who donated pieces may go to NM Clay to pick up their apron. Go early to ensure that you get one of these Empty Bowl aprons. Thanks again for all of your help.
Elaine Biery, Shantel Riley

No we thank you Elaine and Shantel for your hard work!

We invite you to an event to benefit Project Share, which is an organization that has been feeding the homeless since 1983. Over 100 potters and some of Albuquerque's finest restaurants have donated bowls and soup for this event.

To donate bowls, take your bowls anytime to New Mexico Clay, 3300 Girard NE, at any time. (505/881-2350). Here is a form to print to go with your bowls or auction item's.

In order to produce the large quantity of bowls needed for this years event, we would also like potters to consider hosting a bowl throwing party at their own studios.  Remember the old saying, Many hands make light work?  That is the idea behind throwing parties.  You would invite several people to your studio to produce bowls.  The number of people would depend on the amount of space you have.  Some people could be throwing bowls on a wheel while others would be hand building.

Call Brant at NM Clay (881-2350) to supply clay.  You may wish to trim and decorate the bowls yourself or have each person take their bowls home to trim and decorate.  To support our efforts in making bowls for this event, Project Share can cater food and drinks at your scheduled bowl party.  If you would be willing to host such an event, please call .

Remember, when making and donating bowls, all are welcome!  Bring your seconds, your glaze experiments, your extras from dinnerware orders.  Cups and mugs are also appreciated.   If you make raku or pit fired pieces, please consider donating them as well.  The buyers can be served soup in plastic bowls and all our our bowls will find good homes.  We also need special pieces for the silent auction.  Bring your finished bowls any time to NM Clay.

Please be sure to fill out the donation form on the back of this letter when you turn in your bowls.  Tape business cards to the inside or bottom of all your bowls.   The buyers want to know who made their bowl.  With all your generosity and hard work, we will once again have a successful event.
