FOR THE NEW YEAR, STARTING JANUARY 8, 2007 To help prevent the "jaded" membership syndrome, I would like to propose the idea. All of us have some skill to share at the Sandia Monday night meetings. I'm proposing as a membership requirement to present one demonstration or presentation per year. Starting from the membership list in alphabetical order each artisan will take their turn. The demonstration or presentation would be the artisan's choice, at lease fifteen minutes in length and not to exceed one hour. If the artisan does not live in town, a presentation can be snail mailed to Olga Sanchez 1130 Green Valley Rd. NW. Los Ranchos de Albuquerque or emailed to the NM clay website or the group list serve. The presentation subject needs to be related to PMC or Art Clay. Also related subjects such as: conventions, lectures, workshops, books, frustrations, complaints, jewelry cleaning, any other ideas, can be Monday night discussion material etc. SANDIA PMC CHAPTER MEETING NOVEMBER 13, 2006 Jewelry cleaning and bench tips, recap from the summer convention of All That Glitters 2006. Olga September 11th Monday at 5:30pm at New Mexico Clay.- Election of a new Sandia Chapter Of The PMC Guild President - Sandia PMC Chapter Holiday Show - How to get started in the new Sandia PMC Group list serve communication PRESIDENT Gail Levine has been president of the Sandia PMC chapter and has done a great job. HOW TO USE THE LIST SERVE
If you have already joined the group you will get this message. If you want to post a message you can do one of three things. One quick way is to, simply select this message, press reply, the whole group will get your message/reply. Try it now, just say hi. It takes a few minutes to get through to the whole group, depending on your computer connection speed or what ever its called. You can also email any individual in the group. Secondly, if you went through all the prompts correctly when you got the invitation, you will have access to the Sandia PMC Chapter Of The Guild website and list serve page at Yahoo ( this is how I sent you this message). Set the website up as a favorite, so you can go to the post area on the left, etc. see example below.
I hope this helps. I only started learning about this stuff too. So if there is anyone else who is more experienced out there we can always use additional advise.
Happiness comes from keeping those thumbs silver or gold. Thanks. Olga
August Meeting was featuring Jewelry Materials Innovations Read about it HEREFrom Julyfeaturing Chainmaille InstructionHI All,We will have a special session on making chainmaille which can be used for bracelets or necklaces at our next session.Since it requires you have certain materials to practice and participate I am forwarding the email sent me by Michelle Glaeser to give you some idea of what she will teach and what it can do for your PMC works.Photos are attached to her original email.Since Michelle is a new member, her volunteering to teach this technique is really generous of her!Next meeting is July 10 at New Mexico Clay for the chainmaille construction class and at the Guild meeting in August Ron Diegle will demo his special gold products and how to integrate into PMC.THAT meeting is August 14th!
Gail, Here is some information to pass on to the guild
about chainmaille. I plan on teaching the byzantine weave, which was
the bracelet I made using the rose gold filled links. Here is a list of
acceptable sizes of rings to use for this weave: 12 GA, 6.5 mm ID 14 GA, 5.5 mm ID 16 GA, 4.5 mm ID 18 GA, 3.5 mm ID (approx. 105 in 6.5" bracelet) 20 GA, 2.75 mm ID 22 GA 2.25 mm ID (approx. 500 in 15" necklace) In the past, I have purchased the rings at Rio Grande or www.urbanmaille.com or for the gf rings www.goldenmaille.com. Supplies necessary are two pair of flat nose pliers or one pair of flat nose and one pair of chain nose pliers. Of course, different size rings require different numbers to complete a bracelet. I have attached a chainmaille guide (pdf) with some background info and some instructions. Since the guide is 29 pages, I will not be providing copies of it during instruction. Guild members can feel free to make their own copy, color is suggested. I attached a photo of a chainmaille/PMC piece I made. Lastly, I attached a photo showing the different sizes of the finished chain. The one I had in class was the 18 GA; the one in the photo was the 22 GA (but it was 2.4 mm ID, from Rio). With my course schedule next semester, I will be available for all the meetings through December. I would be glad to give additional presentations. Let me know which month I will be presenting.
Thanks! Michelle Glaeser
Past posts... We had a great meeting on Jan 16th featuring the new PMC gold in a presentation including finished examples and we all got to touch some gold clay. Meeting called to order by Brant Palley at 5:30 pm. We had a lovely meal of Lasagna, Salad and garlic bread. THANKS to Gail and Roberta for the food. Roberta got the salad and bread to us even though she was not feeling well. Above and beyond! Judi Anderson had an announcement that the old 6 program Pre-programmed Kilns have a gold fire mode that is not correct for the new PMC gold so be careful. We all agreed that you should learn to program your own firings. We talked about PMC's price going up and the fact that silver was up to $9.40 an Oz. Judi Anderson handed out new anti-tarnish zip bags and other free stuff from Rio Grande. Judi then featured PMC gold in a presentation including finished examples and we all got to touch some gold clay. Most of us felt that you should make something, like a ring out of the gold clay and use the Aura 22 for embellishments. She shared her secrets of success with Aura 22 gold. Add 1 drop of media and a drop of water, stir well using a metal ball burnisher, apply two layers of gold and don't force dry. Fire with a torch until the gold glows and hold for 1 minute, burnish while still hot. wire brush then tumble! Nominations were held and Gail Levine agreed to be President for the next 6 months. Thank you Gail. we agreed that someone present would keep the minutes. Gail's plan for next meeting is an approach to marketing yourself . Including making a business plan and finding new outlets to sell through. Ideas for future meetings include: March: From Earwires to adding beads to a piece and a bead swap April: Raku glaze on silver May: Fordham vs. Dremel Pros and cons. At New Mexico Clay 3300 Girard NE. PH# 881-2350.There will be a light meal catered by....... Volunteer Needed!!!Remember we have no dues, and very few rules, so invite everyone you like the meetings. Please join us. We do a catered dinner where one or two members brings dinner for all and gets reimbursed by all. So far it has been nice, especially when the Caterer makes an effort and cooks something themselves, it is really special. It should work out to around $5.00 per person. Suggestions for future meeting projects/demos: Welcome Brant Palley |
