CORNWALL STONE 55 lb. has characteristics between a kaolin and a feldspar. It is used to achieve a smaller concentration of alkali flux in a glaze. This results in less shrinkage, minimizing glaze defects. Combined with a flux it is itself a glaze.
This item is a blended substitute
Minimum order quantity is 1 lb. (CORNSub)
Chips of Custer Feldspar, added to clay at cone ten they gush out and look like this.
Recognized as one of Japan's six old kilns, the history of Shigaraki ware dates back some 1,200 years to the Nara period (710-794).
There are three points to look for when judging the color of a wood-fired, ash-glaze Shigaraki pot -- the overall color, the glass beads and dribbles formed when the heat in the kiln melts particles of feldspar in the clay, and the scorches that come when the pot is blackened by ash.
FERRO FRIT 3134 (BORON)
Calcium Borate source used with other frits for low fire glazes. 06 to 01
Frits are glaze materials which have been melted, cooled and ground into a powder which is then added to a glaze formula for the purpose of rendering insoluble, any soluble material present. Minimum order quantity is 1 lb.
