The Portable Clay Studio or How to keep your studio in your
closet
There seems to be a trend in potters equipment these days, portable pottery
equipment. Maybe you always wanted your own studio, but didn’t have the room.
Your wish has been granted, here is a rundown of what to put in your closet
studio.
The regular potters wheel say a Brent C, weighs 115 pounds, not portable.
But Creative Industry’s Artista wheels weighs in at 30 lbs. And will center 25
lbs of clay! You put it on a table and away you go.

Now you need an extruder you say? There are handheld models the newest is
from Kemper tools .

comes with three aluminum disks that are inside the gun. . As a matter of
fact all the Kemper tools are portable.
How about a
portable slab roller, really! North Star’s 18” portable
slabroller fits on any kitchen table. The double roller system cuts down on
warping and the gear driven rollers make it easy to use. The table weighs 20lbs
and the slabroller 25lbs. And breaks down for easy storage in that closet.

The home kiln
A portable Kiln? Maybe on wheels? Yes we have that too, the Home Artist from
paragon comes with wheels and an expanding luggage style handle. The home
artist is 12” x 12” tall on the inside and runs on 120V and will fire to 2000F.
The digital controller allows precise control and gives you the freedom to fire
glass, metal, raku and anything (even chicken pot pies).
So there you go a quick rundown of smaller pottery equipment, easy to move
and not too expensive. Now if we could only make the clay lighter…..
